Loose leaf chew

Loose leaf chew is the newest of the three with it’s introduction in the late part of the 1870’s. It’s made much like Plug chew is up to the aging process. After the tobacco is aged, leaves were laid out to dry a bit before a coating of sweetener, often corn syrup or molasses, was added to each leaf and allowed to dry a bit again. After drying, the leaves were packaged in wax lined boxes back then, now it’s packaged in foil lined pouches. Loose leaf chew was popular with farmers and cowboys back then as well but in the 1900’s, it was the choice of baseball players across the country.
